Architecture and Engineering Occupations, with a share of 12%, emerged as the top electric vehicles-related job roles within the automotive industry in Q1 2024, with new job postings drop by 28% quarter-on-quarter. Computer and Mathematical Occupations came in second with a share of 10% in Q1 2024, with new job postings dropping by 19% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent electric vehicles roles include Management Occupations with a 9% share in Q1 2024, Installation, Maintenance, and Repair Occupations with a 8% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in automotive industry accounted for 36% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q1 2024 were Tesla, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, Hero MotoCorp, Ford Motor, and J.B. Poindexter. Together they accounted for a combined share of 36% of all electric vehicles-related new jobs in the automotive industry.

Tesla posted 465 electric vehicles-related new jobs in Q1 2024, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group 303 jobs, Hero MotoCorp 250 jobs, Ford Motor 215 jobs, and J.B. Poindexter 190 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 46.75% share of total new job postings, Q1 2024

The largest share of electric vehicles-related new job postings in the automotive industry in Q1 2024 was in the US with 46.75% followed by the UK (10.43%) and India (9.85%). The share represented by the US was one percentage point higher than the 45.76% share it accounted for in Q4 2023.
