SK On has agreed to develop high performance EV battery cells for Ferrari.
It said it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Italian luxury sportscar manufacturer this week “to reinforce our partnership and lead innovation in cell technology. We have agreed to share expertise in our respective areas to expand technological collaboration and exchange valuable insights”.
SK On began supplying EV batteries to Ferrari in 2019, for the automaker’s SF90 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) range. Its batteries are now also fitted to the 296GTB and 296GTS PHEVs, which were launched in 2021 and 2022.
The announcement came after Ferrari announced plans to launch its first full electric model in the fourth quarter of 2025.
SK On CEO Lee Seok-hee said in a statement: “By combining expertise and technologies from our two companies we expect to provide customers with new experiences and values.”
Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna said: “We are working together with SK On to explore new frontiers and fuel the energy of shared ideas”.
